StartSmart! invites Estonian entrepreneurs to Finland for a seminar on IT and mobile apps

19 March 2012

"Steps4Success", the seminar on IT and mobile apps to be held on March 21 in Helsinki, is expected to attract more than 250 participants, among them a considerable number of young Estonian entrepreneurs. The seminar to be held in cooperation with Aalto University features, for instance, a presentation by Mikko Kaipainen, founder of Ovelin and the inventor WildChords that was voted Europe's best learning game on iPad in 2011.
This is the fourth seminar in the series of StartSmart! events. The Models4Business seminar held in Tallinn in February was very popular, attracting more than 200 participants from Estonia and Finland and with 18,000 people attending worldwide via a live webcast.

"While the previous event of our series focused on business models, "Steps4Success" that will be held in Helsinki will enable starting entrepreneurs to listen to the experience of three successful company founders," describes Maija Tamburello from Aalto University. "In addition to the CEO of Ovelin, the public will hear from William Wolfram who successfully founded Dealdash start-up in US and last year won the Timang Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and Ajay Garg, CEO of Finland-based start-up Hakema, an experienced engineer and executive of several start-up companies who, among others, has sold two of his companies in the US at a profit."

The second half of the day in "Steps4Success" will hold practical workshops focusing on subjects such as how to finance a start-up, how to benefit from social media and how to create a functioning team.
The sector of IT and mobile apps has been very successful for many Estonian and Finnish start-up enterprises, with several start-ups in this segment having become globally recognised. Since game development and design is not yet separately taught in Estonian universities and tech schools, this event in the StartSmart! series will be a good opportunity to learn from the experiences of professionals, take part in workshops and in networking events.

StartSmart! is a series of conferences, seminars, workshops and networking events, targeted at the starting entrepreneurs of Estonia and Finland. The series of events will be conducted until mid-2013 in cooperation with the Estonian Development Fund, Aalto University School of Economics Small Business Centre, Enterprise Estonia, Technopolis Ülemiste and consulting company BDA Consulting. The project is co-financed from the Interreg IV A Programme 2007-2013.
